WASH for Logs is a two day training course held at the Oxfam Supply Centre. It aims to teach water and sanitation basics to logistics and procurement staff who have little or no knowledge of the subject. Previous course participants have been from: Oxfam GB, Intermon, ACF, Tearfund, British Red Cross, Medair, Plan International, Save the Children, Norwegian Church Aid, Deutsche Welthungerhilfe.
The course has also been successfully delivered 'on location' to the Oxfam team at Cox's Bazaar, Bangladesh.
Logistics staff are asked to procure and deliver WASH equipment by programme field teams. Too often they are not provided with sufficient technical information resulting in questions being asked by suppliers which need to be relayed back to the field engineer.
Too frequently time is lost and delays occur because engineers do not provide the correct or sufficient information when initiating a procurement.
This course is an introduction to WASH basics. It is a technical course, for those with no technical experience, and it aims to provide logistics, procurement or programme management staff with enough knowledge to be able to question the programme delivery team over WASH planning and supply requests.
The course will be held at the Oxfam Supply Centre warehouse in Bicester, UK. It will be a mix of informal ‘classroom’ sessions and hands-on practical demonstrations of various equipment items.
